Please note, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the following protocols are in place to ensure the safety of our animals, visitors, and staff:

  • All guests must wear masks during the duration of the program.
  • No more than 2 guests per program. All guests must be from the same household/party and must maintain a 6 feet distance from staff.
  • No guests will be allowed to touch any of the animals during the duration of the program.
  • Guests must be at least 8 years of age.

Humboldt penguins are a threatened species. Major threats to their survival include:

  1. Reduction in food supply because of commercial overfishing
  2. Global climate change
  3. Increased frequency of El Nino weather events
  4. Habitat destruction
  5. Entanglement in fishing nets
  6. Mining activities
  7. Overexploitation of guano (poop), disturbance of nesting sites
  8. Marine pollution
