Skip the Straw
An estimated 8 million tons of plastic enters our oceans every year. That’s enough plastic to have a full garbage truck dumping its contents into the ocean EVERY SINGLE MINUTE.
Here are some other scary stats about plastic pollution from the Ocean Conservancy:
- Plastic kills 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals every year
- 50% of sea turtles have ingested some form of plastic
- Volunteers have found nearly 1 billion plastic straws and stirrers over the 30 years of international cleanups.
- If nothing changes, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.
Plastic straws and stirrers are a big part of the problem. In fact, they’re among the top ten items found at international beach cleanups!
By pledging to “Skip the Straw,” you’re making a personal, targeted promise to help keep that plastic out of our oceans.
