Outreach Programs

Would you like to bring the Aquarium to your site? We can bring an Ambassador Animal or present a hands-on activity to give your group more insight into the aquatic world.

PROGRAMS

  • Chevron down Traveling Touch Tank
  • All ages and levels; 30 minutes per session

Schools/Scouts – $100 for the first session, $50 for each additional session (maximum of 5 sessions)
Private Groups – $120 for the first session, $60 for each additional session (maximum of 5 sessions)

We will give students an up-close look at some of the smallest and most numerous creatures in our ocean, finishing up with the opportunity to touch marine invertebrates such as hermit crabs, sea stars, and urchins. The presentation is appropriate for all ages and can be tailored to your group’s interests.

    NYS Science Standards: LS1 (1, 2, 8), LS2 (1, 3, 6, 7), LS4 (1, 4, 5), PS 3 (2), PS4 (1), and ESS1 (1)

    Common Core Standards: SL (1, 2, 3) and L (3, 6)

  • Chevron down Animal Tales
  • Pre-K to Grade 1; 30 minutes per session

Schools/Scouts – $100 for the first session, $50 for each additional session (maximum of 5 sessions)
Private Groups – $120 for the first session, $60 for each additional session (maximum of 5 sessions)

We will read a story focusing on an Ambassador Animal of your choice then bring out the starring animal for your group to meet. The story creates a relatable connection to an animal from another world, and inspires the student’s curiosity and interest to learn more.

    NYS Science Standards: LS1 (1), PS3 (2), and PS4 (1, 3)

    Common Core Standards: RL (1, 7, 10), SL (1, 2, 3) and L (3, 6)

Meet one of our Ambassador Animals up close and learn about their natural history, importance to their ecosystem, and their relationship to humans. Participants will have an opportunity to touch the animal and ask questions. Two species of freshwater turtles are currently available for this program.

    NYS Science Standards: LS1 (1, 2, 8), LS2 (1, 3, 6, 7), LS4 (1, 4, 5), PS3 (2), PS4 (1) and ESS (1)

  • Chevron down Squid Dissection
  • Grades 5 and up; 60 minutes per session

Schools/Scouts – $200 for the first session, $50 for each additional session (maximum of 2 sessions)
Private Groups – $240 for the first session, $60 for each additional session (maximum of 2 sessions)

Dissection is an important part of understanding how animals work and we will provide the opportunity to examine invertebrate morphology during a hands-on dissection. Students will work together to identify the parts of a squid, we will discuss how it compares to vertebrate anatomy, and explore the many adaptations that help this invertebrate be the predator and not the prey.

    NYS Science Standards: LS1 (1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8), LS2 (7), LS4 (1, 6), PS4 (1, 2, 3, 4), and ESS1 (1)
