Enjoy a ‘night’ of golf To benefit Aquarium
If you’re one of those folks who thinks golf is a boring sport, the Aquarium of Niagara adds some excitement by playing a few holes after the sun goes down.
The annual “Putting for Penguins” tournament begins at 5 p.m. Friday, July 16, in the daytime and ends after four rounds in the dark at the Newfane Pro-Am Par 3, 2501 N. Main St., Newfane.
This fun scramble format using glo-balls and sticks is open to anyone, regardless of ability. Now in its fifth year, the tournament is a fundraiser for the Aquarium and its living collection. Golfers should register by July 13 by calling 285-3575, Ext. 206, or sign in from 5 to 6 p.m. that night when there will also be a putting contest with Beaker, the Aquarium mascot, and the Hershey Moose. Dinner is at 6 p.m. with a shotgun start at 7 p.m., followed by night golf at 9:30 p.m.
Steve Kling, Aquarium board member, is chairman; Kevin O’Neill, weatherman from Channel 2 WGRZ, is celebrity chair. Deejay Pat Proctor will provide the music. A dinner buffet, beer, wine, soft drinks and great prizes are included. Raffles, prizes and awards will be given out at 9 p.m. Golfing continues until 10:30 p.m.
Entry fees are $80 per golfer, or $320 for a foursome. Party only is $30. Call 285-3575, Ext. 206, for more information.
Several sponsorship levels are still available. Call Gay Molnar at Ext. 204 to become a sponsor or to donate a prize. All golfers will receive a gift bag. Don’t forget flashlights and bug spray.
