Volunteers, Interns and Jr. Docents

Are you an animal lover? Do you want to work in a insitution who serves animals?

We have amazing volunteer opportunities to offer, you'll be walking in the foot steps of many staff members who started here as volunteers!

Fish, Invertebrates, and Birds: This department, known as FIB, works behind the scenes to care for the Aquarium’s aquatic displays, including our colony of Humboldt penguins. They are responsible for husbandry, life support systems, water quality and enrichment of all these specimens in our care. Volunteers and Interns will help with preparing the diet for the animals, observing the animals, as well as keeping their areas clean and healthy and assisting with enrichment and water quality.

Volunteers are needed daily from 7:30 am- 4:30 pm. Can work full shift or half shifts

Education: The education department handles outreach, touch tanks, most public talks, and biofacts (aquarium-related artifacts). They help to enrich Aquarium guests’ experiences by providing additional information about our animals in as many ways possible. Volunteers and Interns will help with the daily routine and learn how to create lessons, talk to the public about the biofacts, and assist with outreach and the touch tank.

Volunteers are needed daily from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Marketing: This department deals with the presentation of the Aquarium to its potential guests. Marketing requires a great deal of creativity, teamwork skills, organizational skills, and adaptability. Volunteers and Interns will help out with making things for marketing, assisting with events and other tasks.

Volunteers are needed daily from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Maintenance: This department keeps the Aquarium clean and functioning. They are an integral part of ensuring that the Aquarium runs smoothly. Volunteers will help keep the facility clean and help with other tasks.

Guest Services: This department welcomes our guest; they are the first face that our guests see when they walk in the door. They also take care of the gift shop. Volunteers will help welcome our guests into the Aquarium and straighten up the gift shop.

Volunteers are needed daily from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Volunteers can work in 4-hour shifts or they may work the whole day. Volunteers are required to do a minimum of 8 hours a month.
