Behind the Scenes:
Caring for Seals and Sea Lions

Journey Behind the Scenes
Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes? One of our trainers will provide fascinating facts about our commitment to education and conservation, through a guided experience. Join us behind the scenes on this approximately 30-minute tour to discover how our teams of trainers care for our California sea lions and harbor seals. Participants will have the opportunity to toss an enrichment device to our harbor seals, tour our fish kitchen, see backstage areas, and enjoy reserved seating during our “Spirit of the Sea” sea lion show. Reservations are required, and limited space is available. Reservations can be made by calling (716)-285-3575 extension 214 or stopping by our gift shop

Program Highlights:
Participant will meet and interact with one of our marine mammal trainers who will discuss the typical day of an animal trainer and what it takes to provide care for these amazing animals
Participant will be guided through behind the scenes areas including fish kitchen, water quality laboratory, backstage areas and filtration rooms
Participant will select and toss a fishy treat to our harbor seals
Reserved seating directly across from the stage during our `Spirit of the Sea` sea lion show

Restrictions:
Behind the scenes tours do not include Aquarium of Niagara admission
Participant(s) must be 6 years of age or older and able to climb stairs, kneel, bend, sit and stand
Participant(s) must complete a release form prior to participating in the program; minors under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign their release form
Tours are for paying participant(s) only
Participant(2) must not be pregnant
Participant(s) must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Participant(s) must be capable of and willing to participate
Participant(s) must be able to understand English and be a competent swimmer, though you will not be entering the water
Participant(s) must not have participated in a marine mammal rescue within the previous 48 hours to avoid transmission of disease to our animals
Participant(s) must be able to follow instructions, and can be asked to leave the program at anytime

Observers:
Observers are not permitted into restricted or behind the scenes areas.

Cancellations and Reservations:
Program is $30 per participant for non-members, $25 for Aquarium of Niagara members. Payment is required to make a reservation
The program is available at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. from June 27, 2015 until September 7, 2015
Refunds will NOT be issued to participants who are too cold, scared of animals or the water, change their minds or otherwise choose not to participate
Reservations may be made up until ten minutes before the start of the program
Reservations are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, limited to five participants per session
Programs are not canceled due to light rain or wind, only inclement weather; rain checks will be provided
We reserve the right to cancel or amend program content and price without notice
Refunds are not available after payment has been received
Animal training staff may end the session at any time with or without notice

Day of Interaction
Participants will be greeted in the gift shop by animal training staff ten minutes before the start of their scheduled tour, participants must be on time or their reservation may be sold
Participants must wear closed-toe shoes with traction. High heels are not allowed
Some portions of the tour are outdoors so participants should dress accordingly
Please note that you may get salt water on your shoes and clothing, and the deck can be slippery
