Education Programming at the Aquarium

Education is at the core of our mission statement. We believe in education through inspiration. It is our goal to integrate conservation and an appreciation of all aquatic ecosystems into every visitor's life through hands-on educational experiences and thought-provoking programs and exhibits. Our belief is that local and individual conservation efforts lead to global changes and prepares our participants to be better stewards of the environment.

First Friday Each Month: Au-Some Aquarium

  • Special evenings dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, sensory friendly environment where families with autism can meet, learn, and have fun together. Families will enjoy a touch tank, sea lion show, sensory and art activities, gluten free snacks and information resources from community partners. Each night has a different theme! The program was developed with collaboration between Aquarium of Niagara, Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo, and several community partners.

  • Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Ages: All Ages
  • Price: $10 per family, $5 per person for groups
  • You can register here (registration not required but encouraged)

Every First Saturday of Each Month: Sea Squirts Program

  • These sessions are specifically designed to encourage interaction between parent and child through story time, fun-to-do crafts and hands-on learning experiences. The gatherings are structured to enhance each child's interest in the aquatic ecosystem and the natural world. Each session centers around one animal. Participants also receive reserved viewing for the 11 o'clock Sea Lion Show. Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign-in.
  • Time: Sea Squirts Program starts at 11am
  • Ages: Perfect for children 1 - 4 years old
  • Price: Included with admission

 

February 20th: Sharks in Depth Class

  • Despite being one of the most familiar ocean animals, sharks are greatly misunderstood, creatures. Get the facts with us as we dive into their world to discuss how they hunt, what they eat, and whether they are really a danger to humans. This hands-on class will leave you with a new appreciation for a top predator of the ocean.
  • Time: 10:00am to 12:00pm- Ages 6-10 years old

              2:00pm to 4:00pm- Ages 11-15 years old

  • Price: $15.00 for non-members, and $10.00 for members

 

Feruary 22nd: Junior Scientist

  • Do you love the ocean? Have you ever wondered what a marine biologist does? If so this is the class for you. Come explore the Aquarium and learn about the ocean, have a behind the scenes look at what our Aquarist do, learn how to test the water, work with microscopes, and more. 
  • Time: 2:00pm to 4:00pm
  • Ages: 11-15 years old
  • Price: $15.00 for non-members and $10.00 for members
