The Aquarium has joined forces with ECO-CELL, a nationwide project that recycles cell phones. The EPA estimates that 130 million cell phones will go out of use this year, creating 65,000 ton of garbage. This electronic garbage is very likely to end up in the waste stream and is an increasing contributor of toxic materials in landfills.
Aquarium members, guests, employees, friends and area businesses can help. All you have to do is bring your old cell phone to the Aquarium leave it at the admission desk or drop it in the designated ECO-CELL collection container, during regular hours. For every cell phone turned in, ECO-CELL will give the Aquarium a monetary return on a monthly basis, at no charge to the facility.
